1 November 2011, London, UK: ThorDC, the leading energy efficient data centre in Iceland and the eleventh member of the International Data Centre Group (IDC-G) today announces the new landing of the Emerald Express Trans-Atlantic Cable System in Grindavik, Reykjanes, Iceland  which is set to be launched in December 2012. The planned 100×100 Gbps network will transform trans-Atlantic bandwidth and connectivity, enabling Iceland’s emerging data centre industry.

The Emerald Express System includes a high capacity connection to Iceland, allowing Iceland based data centre ThorDC to offer ultra low latency connections to Europe and North America, the other landing points are positioned off Newfoundland and Ireland. The trans-Atlantic marine cable route survey commenced in early August and the Emerald Express System is planned to enter service in December 2012.

“The Emerald Express System offers a combination of 100 waves x100 Gbps per fibre pair design and ‘great circle’ routing for optimized trans-Atlantic low latency that will enable Emerald Networks to meet the tremendous demand for bandwidth driven by cloud services, while providing Iceland with the required connectivity to support the anticipated explosive growth of low cost, 100% carbon free, renewable energy powered data centres,” said Ray Sembler, Emerald Networks, CEO. The Emerald Networks route to Iceland will bring 2 FP and 2 Tbps capacity into the country, allowing connections to New York and London’s financial markets.
